
Germany and Qatar enjoy excellent trade relations. German exports to Qatar were worth around € 1.4 billion in 2018, and German imports from Qatar approximately € 300 million. Motor vehicles, aircraft, plant and machinery top the list of German exports to the country. German companies are mainly active in plant construction, energy generation, the building industry, the service sector and the transport infrastructure sector.

Qatar is one of the largest foreign investors in Germany with currently some € 25 billion and has significant holdings in companies including Volkswagen, Deutsche Bank, Siemens and Hapag-Lloyd.
Qatar has announced further investments in Germany for the years to come with a focus on SME´s (Mittelstand) and new investments and participations of some € 10 billion.
At a recent roundtable meeting, H.E. Mohammed Jaham Al-Kuwari, the Ambassador of Qatar to Germany announced a stronger collaboration with the Mittelstand of Germany, the SME´s (small and medium-sized enterprises). The German Mittelstand BVMW (Germany´s largest independent and freely organised association with some 900,000 associated members in its MittelstandAlliance) and the International Mittelstand will play an active role in such relations and have agreed to develop suitable programs and strategies to facilitate closer SME cooperations.

The Mittelstand was held by German Mittelstand BVMW president Mario Ohoven and the International Mittelstand CEO, Markus Jerger with Nizar Maarouf and the Qatar Ambassador to Germany H.E. Mohammed Jaham Al-Kuwari.
